The NY Aviators followed up their 7-2 win on Saturday with a hard fought 3-2 win on Sunday afternoon over the Cuse. The Mountain Hockey boys played a much better game today but mistakes in the last 10 minutes allowed NY to get a late faceoff goal with 8:36 to play and hold off Syracuse down the stretch. After yesterday’s game the hope would be that Cuse would respond and play a better game and they did that. I would even go as far as to say that today they probably deserved a better fate. However mental errors and undisciplined and untimely penalties were their downfall. Especially in the last 10 minutes of the 3rd period. We broke down on a face off to give up the game winner, took 3 penalties down the stretch and let the refereeing get to us. All things that top teams don’t do. We also gave up 2 PPG and didn’t convert on any of our 4 power play chances. Against good teams you don't win when you do these things. Effort was there today though and there is a lot of season left. Hopefully the boys learn and grow from weekends like this.
Brandon Gloska had a very solid game between the pipes and Danny Galvez and Tyler Omara scored 2 solid hard working goals. Raaflaub, Dziergas and Farabee with helpers today. A good team effort but again good wasn't good enough today. The boys really need to bring that consistent effort. We keep calling it the Compuware effort. It needs to be there no matter who is lined up across from them. When they learn it and do it we will become a pretty darn good hockey team. If not we will all continue to ride the roller coaster with them.
The team will now have their first weekend off in about 2 months after one heckuva stretch in Hock-Tober. They are off next to the Islanders Showcase Nov. 6 – 8 where they will be competing in 4 league games and can hopefully get back to their winning ways. Looking ahead I am looking forward to our trip to NY in early January as I think the Aviators will be a team someone has to go through to win this whole thing. We'll see how we do next time.
